[서평] 디지털 시대, 웹소설로 인문학 톺아보기

The Digital Age, Reading Humanities with Web Novels: With a focus on 『Return of the Blossoming Blade』 and 『Omniscient Reader』

이 글은 웹소설 장르가 독자에게 인문학적 고찰의 계기가 될 수 있을지에 대한 가능성을 탐색하기 위해 작성되었다. 이를 위해서 대중적으로 성공을 거둔 웹소설 <화산귀환>과 <전지적 독자 시점>을 인문학적 관점에서 살펴보았다. 그 결과 두 작품 모두 매력적인 캐릭터를 중심으로 사건 중심의 서사를 빠르게 이끌어간다는 점, 인물들의 말과 행동을 통해 독자들이 인문학적으로 사색할 수 있도록 한다는 점, 독자들은 댓글을 통해 서로 적극적으로 생각을 공유한다는 점이 특징이었다. 이러한 사례는 웹소설 작품에 드러나는 인문학적 가치가 작품의 성공에 기여할 수 있음을 보여주는 것이고, 동시에 웹소설이 인문학의 디지털 콘텐츠 역할을 대신할 수 있는 가능성을 보여주는 것이다. 이러한 이유로 웹소설에 대한 인문학적 접근이 필요하다. 웹소설 작품에 대한 깊이 읽기와 비평이 이루어져야 하고, 체계적 관점에서의 창작론과 작품론이 연구되어야 한다. 이것은 곧 웹소설 산업의 자양분을 튼튼하게 하는 일일 것이고, 동시에 인문학이 디지털 콘텐츠 시장에서 자생할 수 있게 하는 일일 것이다.

This article was written to explore the possibility of examining the humanities with web novels. To this end, the popular web novels <Return of the Blossoming Bladeo> and <Omniscient Reader> were examined from a humanities perspective. As a result, both works were characterized by quickly leading event-oriented narratives centered on attractive characters, allowing readers to think about human-ities through the words and actions of the characters, and readers actively sharing thoughts with each other through comments. This example shows that the humanities values revealed in web novel works can contribute to the success of the work. And it shows the possibility that web novels can replace the role of digital content in the humanities. For this reason, a humanities approach to web novels is needed. Deep reading and criticism of web novel works should be conducted, and creative theory and work theory from a systematic perspective should be studied. This will strengthen the nourishment of the web novel industry, and at the same time, enable the human-ities to grow naturally in the digital content market.
