This study aims to analyze the salient features identified in Korean lectures, the text of academic listening, by using the methodology of discourse analysis. The discourse analysis starts from the difference between listening to lecture for academic purposes and listening to dialogue for general purposes. As lecture has its own features of the academic spoken discourse, learners are having difficulty in listening comprehension. Therefore learners who want to continue their study should understand how lectures are characterized and organized. To describe and identify features of Korean academic spoken discourse, I collected and transcribed 22 authentic lectures in the university and tried to find the salient features of lecture discourse, styles of lecturing, structures of lectures and discourse markers. To brief on the results of the discourse analysis, lectures show 7 salient features, that is, the use of spoken languages, some formal expressions and well-organized structure, frequent topic shift, the use of discourse markers, interpersonal strategies, an amount of foreign vocabulary and the use of visual aids. And lectures are generally categorized into 3 styles - reading style, conversational style and presentation-discussion style. Moreover I found most of lectures can be divided into 3 parts - introduction, main subject and conclusion and I especially focused on how the topic is developed and shifted in the main subject part.
