This research investigates the effects of text elaboration on Vietnamese students’ reading comprehension. Five Korean reading passages in one of two forms, baseline or elaborated, were presented to 80 students. Comprehension was assessed by an 15-item multiple-choice test, which included items for assessing general, specific, and inferential comprehension. The results support the hypothesis that elaboration could facilitate students’ reading comprehension, especially specific comprehension. This study suggests that elaboration is an effective way for developing reading materials and adapting authentic reading texts.
