Main objective of this dissertation is to demonstrate that; First, there is a significant difference between Korean native speakers and Korean Learners in closure duration timing of the intersyllabic gemination. Second, there is also a significant difference in the impact of the variance in closure duration timing among Korean language learners with native languages. Third, based on these findings, it is critical to conduct research in this area to help Korean language learners for effective learning. For these objectives, this dissertation includes experimental phonetics researches on closure duration timing of different language speakers, analysis on the root causes, and identification of key differences among various interlanguages. Main experiments include the followings; To prove how closure duration timing of /ㄱ/, /ㄷ/, /ㅂ/ impacts on the correct recognition, the respondents were asked to identify these final consonants when they were pronounced at 5 different speeds. This was executed with 20 Korean native speakers, and 8 Korean language learners from English, Japanese and Chinese native speakers respectively. These results could also be proved by the theories of Markedness Differential Hypothesis and Equivalent Classification Model.
