The learners are interested in the grammar with which they can make meaning and create a rich social life. They want to learn grammar as a communicative resource not as an abstract rule. The functional grammar puts together the patterns of the language and the things the learners can do with them. This is based on the important correspondences between structure and function. This article is based on functional grammar. I tried to categorize Korean grammar based on functional grammar. These categories express particular grammatical functions. The grammatical categories presented in this article are as follows: Identifying people and things, Modifying people and things, Presenting quantities and amounts, Describing things, Describing actions, Modifying actions, Expressing time, Forming negative statements, Diversifying messages, Using modals, Honoring hearers, Combining messages, Reporting someone’s statements, Making discourses and Making texts.
