This paper presents the tasks and prospects for the field of Teaching Korean as a Foreign Language (TKFL) in terms of research methods. This paper starts with emphasizing a crucial role research methods may play in establishing disciplinary identify of the field and promoting evidence-based TKFL. It then shows the steps and procedures involved in carrying out and reporting research in TKFL, at the same time pointing out what is desired of the current practice. With research in Korean interlanguage pragmatics and needs analysis for Korean for Specific Purposes as two examples, this paper suggests more active use of diverse research methods. Eight future tasks to be performed in TKFL research methods (e.g., detailed research guidelines to be provided, replication and longitudinal research to be carried out, effect sizes to be reported) are suggested.
