The aim of this study is to develop the syllabus of Korean for Academic purposes. It should be the first consideration for those who learn Korean as a prerequisite for their academic purposes. Therefore, it became one of the most attractive research area among the scholars these days. Firstly, it analyzed the needs of learners who want to learn Korean for academic purposes as a basic research. This needs analysis performed mainly in the area of speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, research area, and also the cultural atmosphere on campus. As a result of this analysis, this study consisted of the syllabus which is related to a reference skill. Hereafter, more systematic research on Korean for academic purposes should be followed. And its relation with Korean for general purposes also needs to be studied. The research on this topic that is under going in North Korea could be a good reference. Finally, the syllabus development of Korean for academic purposes will greatly contribute to help the learners not only to improve their Korean language proficiency but also study skill for their academic goals. It is also meaningful from the point of view that the learners could be educated in the way their needs are reflected.
