So far, hundreds of Korean textbooks by various authors and institutions are published and there are many studies about the desirable textbooks and compilation of appropriate textbooks for Korea as a second or foreign language. This study firstly discusses about the concept and a variety of Korean Textbooks for the non-Korean native speakers. Secondly, the fundamental principles of the compilation of Foreign Language Textbooks are discussed. For example, student-centered textbooks are suggested. The studentcentered textbooks here mean that the variables of the students such as age, race, region, proficiency of the target language, the purpose the study, the planned period of study, etc., are systematically considered and reflected on the textbooks. Another two important principles of the compilation of textbooks, students' interest and usability or communicativeness of the textbooks are indicated. Finally this study suggests the following six ways or directions of developing the future Korean textbooks for foreigners. ① Systematic diversification of the textbooks. ② Specialized, professionalized textbooks. ③ Academically researched textbooks. ④ Cultured textbooks ⑤ Globalized textbooks ⑥ Textbooks for internet web site In short, the Korean textbooks for foreigners should be promoted not only in quantity, but also in quality in accordance with global standards and stduents' needs.
