The main goal of this paper is to review research on language learning strategies conducted in Korea and overseas to draw implications and directions to Korean language education. Specifically focusing on background disciplines (i.e., cognitive and educational psychology), definitions, research methodologies, and empirical findings, relevant literature were extensively reviewed. In addition, an in-depth review was followed on studies which deal with Korean EFL learners' language learning strategies, This review was conducted from the perspectives of research topic and method, focusing on findings and their validity. While many studies have been done regarding language learning strategies in Korean EFL contexts, the study revealed that most of the studies are limited and further descriptive studies using various research methods are in need to bring more objective description of Korean language learners.
