최근 다양한 이러닝, 모바일교육이 교육 현장에 널리 사용됨에 따라 마이크로러닝이 새로운 학습법으로 주목받기 시작했다. 마이크로러닝은 다양한 분야에서 적용되고 있으며 이에 따라 최근 여러 분야에서 논문과 발표가 이어지고 있다. 그러나 마이크로러닝은 아직 폭넓은 검토가 필요한 새로운 주제이다. 이러한 맥락에서 이 논문은 새로운 학습법으로서의 마이크로러닝을 탐구하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 본 논문에서는 마이크로러닝 관련 학술논문, 학술발표자료, 학술 보고서 및 인터넷 출판물 등을 검토하여 주요 연구 논점을 다섯 가지로 간추리고, 각각에 대해 나름의 해답을 제시하였다. 세부 사항은 다음과 같다. 첫 번째, 마이크로러닝의 정의에 관하여 해답을 제시했다. 두 번째, 마이크로러닝의 이점에 대해 정리했다. 세 번째, 교육 종사자가 주의해야 할 마이크로러닝의 단점에 대해 논하였다. 네 번째, 마이크로러닝이 교육 현장에서 어떻게 구현되었는지를 보여주는 사례연구를 포함하여 이 주제에 대한 최근의 연구를 정리했다. 마지막으로 마이크로러닝 수업 설계 시 고려해야 할 점을 간추려 제시하였다. 현재, 마이크로러닝에 대한 연구가 여러 학문 분야에서 이루어지고 있으나, 수업에 적용할 수 있을 정도의 정보와 자료는 여전히 부족하다. 이러한 상황에서 본 연구는 문헌연구를 통해 마이크로러닝에 대한 개념적 이해를 진행하여, 이것이 수업 설계에 포괄적인 차원에서 도움이 될 수 있도록 하였다.
Microlearning has been conceived as an emerging topic that needs extensive examination. The purpose of this paper was to explore microlearning as a novel approach. To that end, this paper reviewed the microlearning-related academic and Internet publications to answer five questions regarding the topic. In terms of microlearning, the article specifically discussed the following aspects. First, the paper presented the definition of microlearning. Second, the benefits of microlearning were described. Third, the paper also addressed the risks of microlearning that educational practitioners must be cautious about. Fourth, academic publications have been reviewed to discuss recent microlearning trends, including how the learning approach had been implemented in educational settings. Lastly, the paper elaborated what research studies have pointed out concerning designing microlearning lessons. Although recent research studies have been conducted on microlearning, there is still a scarcity of comprehensive understanding of the topic. This study is expected to fill a small gap between the current studies.
