The developmental stages of children`s sentence constructing ability: A case of Korean children under 24 months

The purpose of this study is to investigate the developmental stages of the ability to construct sentences by Korean children up to the age of two. The developmental stages will be described mainly in two domains; the acquisition of sentence constituents and the development of sentence constructing ability. The acquisition of sentence constituents takes place in three different stages; the stage of nominal construction, the stage of verbal construction, and the stage of extended grammatical categories. The period of the nominal construction stage is from 12 to 16 months, the period of verbal construction stage is 17-20 months, and the period of extended grammatical category stage is 21-23 months. On the other hand, the development of the sentence constructing ability is divided into three stages; the stage of structure testing, the stage of simple sentence construction, and the stage of emerging complex sentence construction. The period of structure testing stage is 12-17 month, the period of simple sentence construction stage is the 18-21 months, and the period of emerging complex sentence construction stage is 22-23 months.
