A Study on the Development of Colloquial Text Measurement Formulas for Korean Writing Evaluations

The purpose of this study was to construct colloquial text measurement formulas that can be utilized in Korean writing evaluations, to draw up a list of colloquial grammar and vocabulary and analyze the frequency of the appearance of conforming text corpus in both spoken and written language. Logistic regression analysis was carried out on the frequency analysis results, and the derived regression equations were used as colloquial text measurement formulas. Values from the ROC curve and AUC analysis showed that the performance of the colloquial text measurement formulas was excellent. In addition, there was a high correlation between the grading scores by a group of experts and the grading based on the colloquial text measurement formulas. Therefore, both the validity and reliability of the colloquial text measurement formulas developed in this study have been verified and they are expected to be useful in actual writing evaluations.
