메타버스(Metaverse)를 활용한 한국어 말하기 수업 방안 연구

A Study on a Korean Speaking Class Based on Metaverse: Using Gather.town

The purpose of this study is to conduct Korean speaking classes in Metaverse and report the cases. Since Metaverse is a virtual implementation of the real world, it can be an effective educational tool that can elicit learners’ interactions through practical speaking tasks based on the theory of social constructivism and task-oriented teaching. In this study, a Korean speaking class was conducted for about a month for 23 beginner Korean learners in Gather.town, which has the highest educational utilization among Metaverse platforms developed so far. As a result, over 90% of learners portrayed satisfaction in terms of interest and interaction in class and usefulness in speaking practice. However, the Metaverse educational platform still lacks certain features and has limitation of the construction of a 5G communication environment to drive the Metaverse platforms, and teachers’ perception of learner-centered classes remain as challenges. Nevertheless, it is meaningful that the research can be used as a basic study in the use of Metaverse platforms in the field of Korean language education.
