Boosters have not received enough attention in the field of Korean language education even though they are important linguistic devices that convey interpersonal meanings just as hedges in academic discourse. In addition, Korean academic discourse education in terms of the pragmatic aspect is important and desperately needed. Therefore, this study conducted a fundamental study focusing on boosters. First, the concept of boosters was defined by reviewing previous studies on boosters. Based on the theoretical background, boosters used in 20 research articles from five disciplines-History, Korean Language and Literature, Psychology, Sociology, Journalism-were examined quantitatively as well as qualitatively. Finally, the pedagogical implications that can be provided for Korean language education were discussed.
