The purpose of this study is to compare apology strategies between Korean native speakers and Myanmarese Korean language learners. To this end, a DCT (Discourse Completion Test), which consists of eight situations, was developed, and responses were collected from Korean university (graduate school) students and Myanmarese university (graduate school) students majoring in Korean language. Then the overall aspects of apology strategies, situational application aspects, and aspects of strategical integration in the two groups were analyzed. The analysis result showed that the apology strategies of the two groups were more influenced by imposition or characteristics of situations than by social status or social distance overall. Based on these results, this study suggests that there is a need to pay attention to the exposure of colloquial expressions like exclamations, for improving pragmatic abilities of Myanmarese learners. Moreover, when it comes to educating learners, it is required to enable recognition of differences in situational perceptions and strategical application aspects between Korean people and Myanmarese people being under the same situation, and further apply these to communication in Korean.
