<심청전> 이본에 나타난 ‘화주승 시주 제안’의 유형과 변모 양상

이 논문은 <심청전>의 이본에 나타난 ‘화주승 시주 제안’의 유형과 변모 양상을 검토한 것이다. 화주승의 시주 제안은 심봉사에게 시주를 권유하는 부분과 심봉사를 위해 발원해 주는 부분으로 이루어져 있다. 이 두 부분의 내용은 <심청전> 이본에서 동일한 모습을 보여주지 않는데, 이를 바탕으로 화주승의 시주 제안은 네 개의 유형으로 나눌 수 있다. 부녀 상면 유형은 화주승의 시주 제안에 딸의 얼굴을 보게 될 것이라는 발원 내용이 보이는 유형이다. 속죄 인도 유형은 화주승의 시주 제안에 전생 죄업에서 벗어나라는 발원 내용이 들어있는 유형이다. 소원 성취 유형은 시주 제안의 앞 또는 뒤에 화주승이 심봉사의 소원 성취를 기원해 주는 내용이 개입된 유형이다. 영검 부각 유형은 시주 제안에 부처의 신통력을 강조하면서 시주를 권장하는 내용이 들어있는 유형이다. 이러한 네 유형의 시주 제안은 <심청전>의 전승 과정에서 다양한 변모 양상을 보여준다. 첫째는 화주승이 시주를 권유하는 내용이 지닌 기복적 성격이 점진적으로 강화되고 있다는 점이다. 둘째는 시주 발원의 내용이 후대로 가면서 세속화되고 있다는 점이다. 셋째는 시주 제안이 기복적·세속적으로 변모하면서, 시주 과정에서 보여주는 화주승과 심봉사의 태도가 점차 통속화되고 있다는 점이다.

This study examined the transformation aspect and the type of ‘A Buddhist monk's offering suggestion’ appeared in different version of <Shimcheongjeon>. His offering suggestion is compromised of two parts; recommending donation and making a wish. These parts don't appear in the same way as other different versions of <Shimcheongjeon>. On that basis, his offering suggestion can be divided in four types. The first type, farther-daughter meeting, gives the contents of praying that blind farther can see his daughter in face. The second is expiation induction type, which shows the praying of departing from a sin of previous life. The third, achievement of wishes type, is involved that a monk hopes for a blessing. The last one called miraculous efficacy type presents that monk encourages donation, emphasizing Buddha's clairvoyant. These classes of offering suggestion are changed in various way by passing down. Firstly, an aspect of offering, a feature of invoking a blessing in detail, is being accentuated gradually. Secondly, content of making a wish is secularized in later generations. Lastly, the offering process is getting substandard, as a offering suggestion is changed secularly.
