Original Korean Wave : Globalization of Taekwondo and Expansion of Cultural Territory

한국 문화의 세계화가 중심부의 일반적 현사응로 자리잡고 있는 상황에서 한국 문화의 세계화를 선도한 태권도에 대한 관심이 줄어들고 있다. 본고에서는 K-스포츠 분야에서의 세계화를 통해 문화영토를 확장한 태권도의 동인과 세계화 과정, 그리고 결과를 역사적 접근을 통해 분석하여 문화영토 확장에 대해 확인하였다. 태권도는 현재 국제 스포츠계에 안정적으로 진입하였으며 민간 외교를 담당하는 주요 축으로 자리잡았다. 태권도는 스포츠 문화 콘텐츠로써 외교적 수단으로 높은 가치를 지니며 파견 사범들을 중심으로 민간 외교의 수단으로도 훌륭한 성과를 보였다. 세대 교체의 어려움, 지속적 영향력의 감소 등 현재 태권도에게 주어진 과제는 여전히 많은 고민을 안고 있다. 태권도는 지금까지처럼 꾸준히 가치를 보존하며 다양한 면을 모색하고 이를 통해 문화 영토를 확장하며 경쟁력을 강화할 방안을 연구해야 할 것이다.

At a time when the globalization of Korean culture is becoming a general response in the center, interest in Taekwondo, which has led the globalization of Korean culture, is decreasing. In this paper, the drivers, globalization processes, and results of Taekwondo, which expanded cultural territory through globalization in the K-sports field, were analyzed through a historical approach to confirm the expansion of cultural territory. Taekwondo has entered the international sports world stably and has become a major axis in charge of civilian diplomacy. Taekwondo has high value as a diplomatic means as a sports culture content, and has also shown excellent results as a means of civilian diplomacy, centering on dispatched instructors. Currently, tasks given to Taekwondo, such as difficulties in generational change and a decrease in continuous influence, still have a lot of concerns. Taekwondo should consistently preserve its value, seek various aspects, expand cultural territory, and study ways to strengthen its competitiveness.
