This study investigates the strength of grammatical cue and lexico-semantic cue in Korean sentence interpretation of Korean learners of Chinese. In the case of Chinese, word order is the most reliable cue for determining the subject and object in a sentence. In contrast, word order in Korean is much more flexible, and case information is the most important cue for marking these grammatical and functional roles. In each sentence, lexico-semantic cue, syntactic cue and morpho-syntactic cue were either competed or consistent with one another. The results showed that the learners relied on word order. However, The learners’ performance improved, they became more adept at noticing and processing case-marking information.
