A Study on the Responses of Silent Cyber Risk in the Non-Life Insurance (Marine Insurance) Market

The increasing threat of cyber risk is expanding the demand for insurance to cover this risk. For marine insurance companies, the cyber insurance market is expected to expand, while the silent cyber risk problem that damages caused by cyber damage may be covered by cargo insurance or new insurance other than cyber insurance has also become serious. As technologies such as IoT develop and spread in the future, it will become increasingly important for insurance companies to identify silent cyber risks in marine insurance and devise appropriate countermeasures. This paper introduces examples of countermeasures against silent cyber risks identified in the US and UK or silent cyber risks by insurance companies, etc. Although the overseas case cannot be directly applied to the situation in Korea, it is considered that the insurance industry's focus and response to clarify the scope of marine insurance will serve as a reference for responding to silent cyber risks.
