A Primary Survey on the Management Status of International Freight Forwarders in Korea

The international freight forwarders play a major role in maintaining the export and import competitiveness of Korea, but it is difficult to manage and support collectively because the international and domestic logistics policy is respectively under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (MOLIT). The main purpose of this study is study to provide basic information that can contribute to the establishment of effective support policies for the international freight forwarders in Korea. Accordingly, the subject of this primary survey is focused on Korean international freight forwarders defined in Article 2 of the Framework Act on Logistics Policy. The survey investigates the status of human resources, customer relationship, firm capabilities and the recognition on policies in the industry of international freight forwarders in Korea. This study is meaningful in that it was the first time in Korea to conduct a survey on the status of international freight forwarders, but since there is no accumulated data, it is expected that the trend in related fields can be dealt with through follow-up studies.
