The aim of this paper is to investigate the differences in vowel acoustic space across learner’s mother tongue. The analysis have been performed with investigation of F1 and F2 values. In addition to comparing each vowel, this study compared the acoustic vowel space of main vowels such as [i, a, u, e] for more precise comparison. The parameters of the acoustic vowel space include Euclidean distance between vowels of [i, a, u], which exists across languages and such as the triangle area(3 area) among them, the square area(4 area) among them and vowel [e]. As a result, two groups were statistically significant within the Euclidian distance. English speakers group was the longest and Korean group was the shortest. And the vowel 3 area([F(2, 26)=29.79, p<.001]), 4 area([F(2, 26)=19.57, p<.001]) also had significant difference statistically. In other words, vowel areas of learner groups are bigger than the Korean group as native speaks. (Chungnam National University)
