This paper seeks to explore a model of teaching the Korean Language on the basis of real application case. The model takes advantage of Korean pop culture, which is growing in popularity in other countries. Dramas and songs have been selected as the main content for classes on the Korean language as they have represented the mainstream success of Korean pop culture abroad. This new model may lead to some interesting results. Students will experience new written sources and use them to improve their grammar and vocabulary skills. A direct approach will be used in which students will listen to the living language that is spoken by the Korean people in real situations. The use of pop culture will undoubtedly increase the students’ interest in their Korean language class content and will convey important elements of Korean society and culture. This approach to teaching Korean is not only theoretical, but it is practical and is based on my teaching experience at Venice University in Italy and at Prince of Songkla University in Thailand. The teaching model defined in this paper will be very useful for the development of Korean language education abroad, but it still requires the systematization of materials and sources to set it into a scientifically rigorous program of instruction.
