The study of meanings and functions of the particles and prepositions in Korean and Malaysian languages for Korean education as a foreign language: the perspective on contrastive linguistics
- 17
From the researcher’s observation as linguists and lecturers of Korean at University of Malaya most of the students have shown difficulties in learning Korean particles, endings, and the honorific systems. Perhaps one of the most difficult items for learning Korean is the system of particles and endings for the Malaysian speakers. It therefore might be helpful to study this issue from a comparative and contrastive linguistics perspective. If effective methods are developed based on these theories, the learning of Korean is expected to be easier. The Korean particle system consists of three major parts, i.e. Case markers, Postpositions, and Conjunction particles. These parts have their unique functions and meanings at the system of particles. In comparative and contrastive linguistics, there is a similar grammatical structure, i.e. Preposition systems, in Malaysian language comparing to Korean particle system as bellows
