의사소통의 민족지학 방법론을 활용한 한국어 문화 교육

Teaching Korean Culture through the Methodology of Ethnographic of Communication: Focusing on the use of situation comedies (short dramas)

  • 11

The purpose of this paper is the research in the Ethnography of Communication which is similar to that of studying culture in foreign language. It is because both aim for an explanation of the culture in which language is spoken, including communication patterns particular to that language. Observing types of behavior and communicative events which are unique to the target language culture will be helpful to language students who reside in the country where the target language is spoken in this case, students learning Korean and living in Korea. Foreign students can learn and find cultural differences in Korean language and Korean culture simultaneously because television dramas, as a composite culture, include the various life styles, behaviors, emotions and thinking of Korean people. Thus this study applied ethnography of communication which can help to observe learners find out by themselves and debate on the cultural differences in the drama they have seen and check validity and reliability through participation. Culture education that uses ethnography of communication is an effective method that helps understand learner’s capability of communication by themselves that result from the culture of the target language.
