The purpose of this study is to analyze the cognitions that Korean language teachers have about teaching grammar, and to use the results to propose the future direction of Korean grammar education research. The study was conducted through a survey. First, quantitative analysis was conducted by surveying teachers on the proportion of curricula taken up by grammar, the difficulty of teaching grammar, and the necessary tools for effective grammar lessons. For more in-depth analysis, open questions were presented concerning specific difficulties faced during grammar instruction, difficulties felt in the classroom, personal problem resolution methods, and suggestions for researchers of Korean grammar education. The results provided understanding of the current state of Korean grammar instruction and implications for the future. There is a large amount of research already completed on Korean grammar education, but more research that is actively applicable to teaching grammar must be conducted. Effective results must be created through research on grammar system, syllabus, and the standardization of grammar terminology. Above all, the creation practical and pedagogical materials must be promoted in order to provide solutions to needs in actual educational environments.
