A Study on the Types of Self-determination Motivation and the Correlation with the Academic Achievements for Chinese Speaking Korean Learners

The purpose of this study is to introduce and apply the self-determination theory in Korean language teaching, which reflects motivation types of learners. To reach the goal of this study, first, we reviewed the studies dealing with motivation. Next, we conducted a survey to measure motivation types of learners. 155 Chinese learners majoring in Korean language and culture at a college were selected and they answered the academic self-regulation questionnaire. Later, we analyzed the data using statistics program and technique and derived some meaningful results. The results of this study were found as follows: first, identified regulation type of motivation prevail for KSL learners. Then, the mere but meaningful negative correlation between introjected regulation type of motivation and learners' academic achievement was found.
