The purpose of this paper is to review the characteristics of TV dramas actually used in the Korean classroom for beginners and to explore appropriate teaching methods that can properly make use of such materials for novice learners. To this end, this study has chosen a research method which is based on both theoretical and practical aspects of utilizing TV dramas as a teaching tool. At the theoretical level, previous studies, which are related to the use of TV dramas and other audio-visual materials in teaching Korean and other languages at home and abroad, have been demonstrated. At the practical level, this paper is based on the results of an experiment carried out on beginners so as to discuss the actual benefits and setbacks of TV dramas used in the Korean classroom. In conclusion, the study proposes several ways to properly use TV drama materials for novice learners.
