한국어 교육에서 교육자의 문화의식 성찰의 필요성

The Necessity of Introspecting Teachers' Cultural Awareness in Korean Language Education: with the Korean cultural items from the novel “It is a happy end however.” from Wanseo Park

The aim of this study is to investigate Korean language teachers' cultural awareness of their own culture because they can have the preconception that they are well acquainted with every aspect of Korean culture. For this purpose, the novel whose title is “It is a happy end however.” from Wanseo Park is selected as a material and an ethnographic method of introspection was used. Novels can be very good ethnographic texts since they describe and show men's lives and culture with effect. Firstly, my cultural awareness as a teacher and researcher with the text was described. Secondly, other teachers' cultural awareness was also described through the questionnaire. These processes are for judging the scope of the native Korean language teachers' cultural thoughts. The analysis of my and other teachers' introspection proved that even the teachers who are Korean natives sometimes have no knowledge about the cultural objects or have disagreeing opinions about some aspects of Korean culture. They presented different judgements especially about the cultural items related to attitudes or values. Therefore, Korean language teachers are asked to introspect their awareness of Korean culture to be more open-minded educational guides.
