For an effective language teaching utilizing literary works, many instructors and researchers agree that each literary work must be assigned to a proper level for literature education. But different and specific needs of courses present some difficulties in selecting a proper literary work for use in the classroom. So this study proposes a rational method for selection and arrangement of literary materials. This method consists of two steps. In the first step, a literary work, such as a poetry or an essay, was leveled in multiple categories. These categories are lexical, grammatical, cultural, and literary. From the linguistic perspective, lexical and grammatical levels are decided using graded lists of lexicon and grammatical elements. The criteria of the cultural category are universality and speciality, and the literary category is leveled according to the thematic and explicative views. In the next step, those categorical levels are integrated with applied weight ratios that reflect the significance of the course purpose. Using this integrated leveling method, many famous poetry and essays may be assigned to verified levels and can be compared to the levels to which the textbooks are already assigned.
