敎育哲學 第87集.jpg

The purpose of this paper is to reveal democratic basis for educational reform by analyzing the meanings of democracy and non-democratic education. John Dewey, who focuses on the relationship between democracy and education, emphasizes the importance of sharing interests and communication to alleviate social class separation caused by educational disparities. He believes that sharing common interests and transportation are essential factors for a society to become democratic. Entrance exam corruption and education practices such as outsourcing papers to enhance credentials in Korea serve as examples of how social class division is reflected in education. It is necessary to restore the public nature of education and eliminate class division in the classroom. We need to restore the classroom as a public space and move away from a narrow focus on individual abilities to create a hospitable classroom for everyone. This is the essence of democratic educational reform.
