Spirituality and Psychiatry : Perspectives of The Roman Catholic Church

인간의 몸과 마음이 분리될 수 없는 것처럼 인간의 영성과 마음도 분리될 수 없는 속성을 가진 실체이다. 로마 가톨릭 교회에서는 수 천년 전부터 여러 가지 형태와 이름으로 인간의 영성에 대한 신학적 이론 아래에서 정신장애인을 바라보고, 또한 실천적인 치료를 해오고 있다. 본고에서는 영성 정신치료의 역사적 연원을 다루어 보고, 로마 가톨릭의 입장에서 이에 대한 이론적 배경을 다루고 자 한다. 또한 임상적인 측면에서 가톨릭 영성 정신치료의 역할과 한계, 가능성을 간략하게 검토한다.

It is human mind that has inseparable relation from the spirit, like the relation of body and mind. Roman Catholic Church has a long history of theory and practice about mental illness and mentally disabled people by a variety of therapeutic forms in the view of theological virtues. In this article, we overview the historical roots of spiritual psychotherapy and deal with the theological background in the terms of Roman Catholic Church. In addition, we review the role, limitation and possibility of Catholic spiritual psychotherapy in clinical psychiatric aspects in brief.
