핵물리 연구 프로그램에 참여한 예비 과학교사의 연구 경험에 대한 분석

In-depth Exploration of Pre-service Science Teachers' Research Experience in Nuclear Physics

본 연구에서는 핵물리 연구의 내용 및 탐구과정에 대해 학습할 수 있는 학부생 연구(URP) 프로그램을 구성하여 예비 과학교사들이 프로그램에서 어떠한 경험을 하며, 그들의 연구 참여 과정은 어떠한 발달 단계를 보이는지에 대해 분석하였다. 서울 소재 대학 예비 과학교사 6명이 자발적으로 프로그램에 참여하였으며, 이들은 총 30주에 걸쳐 연구를 수행하였다. 자료는 연구 현장의 상황을 파악하기 위한 참여 관찰과 예비 교사별로 4-6회, 팀별로 2-4회, 전체 그룹을 대상으로 2회 실시한 면담, 그리고 참여자들이 작성한 연구 일지를 포함하였다. 예비 과학교사들이 URP 프로그램에 참여하면서 경험하게 되는 일련의 과정은 크게 전문가 집단과 연결 고리 만들기, 자신의 지적 수준에 대해 깨닫기, 연구에 몰입하기, 적성 및 진로 확인하기의 4단계로 나타났다. 즉, 참여자들은 연구와 관련된 전문가들을 만나고 자신들의 연구 분야에 대한 지식들을 조금씩 익혀가면서 연구에 몰입하였으며, 깊이 있는 지식과 연구 경험은 부족하지만 연구원 및 동료들과 서로 상호작용하면서 과학 연구 집단의 특성에 대해 이해를 높였다. 또한 연구 경험을 통해 자신의 진로를 결정하는 기회를 갖기도 하였다. 이와 같은 연구 경험 분석은 앞으로의 URP 프로그램 구성 방향과 예비 과학교사 교육에 대한 시사점을 제공해 줄 수 있다.

The purpose of this study was to explore nuclear physics research experiences of 6 pre-service science teachers who joined in the undergraduate research participation(URP) program. The participating teachers spent a minimum of five weekly hours for 30 weeks in the laboratory conducting nuclear physics experiments with assigned a scientist group. Sources of data included the researchers' field notes and voice recordings of the activities and social interactions in the laboratory. The participants were interviewed, both formally and informally, periodically during the program. Student journals were also collected. In result, even though there was a wide spectrum of the depth of their immersion in the nuclear physics research, all showed four stages of development through the whole process of research participation as follows. Each participant 1) made inter-linkages with the expert group, 2) seriously realized her intellectual capability and reflected on herself, 3) immersed herself in conducting research, and 4) took a serious consideration on their career. While being involved in the program, the participants not only obtained the understanding of the nature of science research and scientist groups, and had opportunities to explore their career.
