20세기 초 건축도면을 통해 본 舊 황실 도서 소장처의 변화

The Change of Old Imperial Library through the Architectural Drawings in the Early 20th Century

본문에서는 장서각과 국립고궁박물관 소장 근대 건축도면 중 황실재정 정리기구를 통해 궁내부와 이왕직에서 생산한 자료를 중심으로 과거 대한제국 황실에서 소장한 도서 소장처의 위치와 규모가 시기에 따라 변화하는 양상을 파악함으로써 한국학중앙연구원 장서각 도서의 원래 소장처의 변화를 이해하는 데 의미 있는 결과를 도출할 수 있었다. 특히 이 논문에서는 장서각 도서를 소장했던 건축도면으로, 먼저 한성 북부 관광방의 옛 종친부 건물이던 仁修宮과 인수궁 내 경근당과 옥첩당에 황실도서를 보관하기 위해 만든 서가 구조를 그린 도면을 통해 인수궁의 실체와 그 부속 건물, 그리고 그 위치를 비정할 수 있었다. 이후 창덕궁도서고는 1915년 창경궁 秋景苑 터에 세운 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이곳은 ‘이왕직도서고’, ‘이왕직 장서각’ 등으로 불렸으나, 도면에 공식 명칭인 ‘창덕궁도서고’가 선명하게 나타나 있어 당시 공식명칭을 파악할 수 있다. 한편 1911년 준공된 제실박물관의 기능이 1938년 이후부터 덕수궁 석조전으로 이전한 정황을 반영한 1938년 이후 도면에서 창덕궁도서고 자리에 ‘舊藏書閣’과 제실박물관에 새로 옮겨진 ‘藏書閣’을 기록하여 그 위치를 정확하게 확인할 수 있다. 舊 황실 도서고와 관련한 근대 건축도면을 통해 제실도서관을 계획했던 인수궁부터 창덕궁도서고와 장서각에 이르기까지 건축물의 구체적 위치와 명칭이 조금씩 변화되었음을 파악할 수 있었다.

This paper focused on architectural drawings related to the library for storing imperial books in the early 20th century. In this paper, we found the architecture drawings reflecting the plan to build an Imperial Library on the site of the Insugung of Jongchinbu. In 1915, the Changdeokgung Palace Library was built on the site of Changgyeonggung Palace's Chugyeongwon garden. In Jangseogak Archives, a draft drawing drawn on Kent paper and a revised drawing of Changdeokgung Library remain, so we can understand the process of making architectural drawings. The Empire Museum, completed in 1911, was relocated to Seokjojeon Hall of Deoksugung Palace, and after 1938, the books of Changdeokgung Library were moved to this place and a reading room connected by a long corridor was newly established to the north. The drawing made after 1938 shows the exact location of the old “Jangseogak” on the site of the Changdeokgung Library and the new “Jangseogak” moved to the old Imperial Museum. In this paper, we examined that the specific location and name of the building have changed from Insugung Palace, which planned the Empire Library, to ‘Changdeokgung Library’ and ‘Jangseogak’ through modern architectural drawings in Jangseogak Archives of the Academy of Korean Studies.
