한국의 나홍진 감독이 기획하고 태국의 반종 피산다나쿤 감독이 연출한 한국과 태국 합작영화 <랑종>(2021)은 태국 이산 지역을 배경으로 신내림이 대물림되는 무당 가문의 가족에게 벌어진 미스터리한 현상을 페이크 다큐멘터리 형식으로 담은 작품이다. 본고는 <랑종> 사례를 보면서 한국과 태국의 영화 합작을통해 영화계의 국제 네트워크 구축이 이루어지는 방식을 살펴보고, 태국 영화산업의 현재를 진단하며, 한태 합작영화가 가지는 사회문화적 의의를 탐색한다. 또한 나홍진 기획이라는 점에서 <곡성>과 <랑종>이 가지는 유사성을 무속과 역사의 관점에서 살펴보면서 아시아 국가의 공통감각에 대해 논한다. 본고는 아시아인들의 정서적, 감정적 공통점이 영화 제작에 반영되어 일회적 이벤트로서의 합작이 아니라 양국 문화연대의 진정성을 끌어올리는 것으로서 영화 합작의 의미를 연구한다. 또한 이러한 활동이 양국간 상호문화 교류라는 점에서 긍정적인 모델이 되고 있으며, 한국영화가 아시아 영화시장에서 선도적인 역할을 함으로써가지는 가치에 대해 강조한다.
The Medium(2021), a Korean-Thai collaboration film produced and written by Na Hong-jin of Korea and directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun of Thailand, is a fake documentary about the mysterious phenomenon that took place in the family of a shaman in the Isaan region of Thailand, where Shinnaerim is handed down through generations. Through the case of The Medium, this paper examines the ways in which Korean-Thai film collaborations build international networks in the film industry, diagnoses the current state of the Thai film industry, and explores the socio-cultural significance of Korean-Thai collaboration films. It also discusses the similarities between The Wailing and The Medium in terms of Na Hong-jin’s project, exploring the common sensibilities of Asian countries through the lens of shamanism and history. This paper examines the meaning of film collaborations as a way to enhance the authenticity of cultural solidarity between the two countries, rather than as a one-time event, as the emotional and affective commonalities of Asians are reflected in film production. It also emphasizes the value of such activities as a positive model of cross-cultural exchange between the two countries and the value of Korean cinema as a leading player in the Asian film market.
