Exploring the Causes and Solutions of Free-Riding in Team Collaboration Learning: Expert Solutions Based on Systematizing Prior Research

본 연구는 팀 협력학습 상황에서 발생하는 무임승차 원인을 체계적으로 분석하여 다양한 무임승차의원인에 대한 실제적인 해결책을 탐색하는데 그 목적을 둔다. 협력 수업을 경험한 서울 수도권 대학270명의 학생들을 대상으로 무임승차자 경험 여부에 대한 자료를 수집 후 전문가 FGI를 통해서 검토하여 최종 해결책을 논의하여 결과를 도출하였다. 그 결과 무임승차자가 발생하였을 때 교수자가 초기에발견하는 것과 도출된 무임승차자의 태도와 특성에 맞는 적절한 스캐폴딩이 중요한 것으로 나타났다. 해결책에서는 협업을 진행하는 동안이나 그 이후에도 협업에 대한 긍정적인 인식개선은 물론이고 팀들의 사기가 저하되지 않도록 하는 것에 중점을 두었다. 또한 무임승차자가 발생할 수 있는 초기의 원인발견과 무임승차의 예방 차원에 관한 요소별 스캐폴딩으로 해결책을 마련하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 결과가 팀 협력 학습을 이끌어 가는 교수자들에게 무임승차자가 발생했을 때 대처 방안으로 도움이 되는 자료가 되기를 바란다.

The purpose of this study is to systematically analyze the causes of free-riding in team collaborative learning situations and explore practical solutions for various causes of free-riding. Data on the experiences of 270 students from universities in the Seoul metropolitan area who have undergone collaborative classes were collected regarding their experiences of free-riding. The data were reviewed through expert Focus Group Interviews (FGIs) to discuss and derive final solutions. The results indicated that it is important for instructors to detect free-riders early on and provide appropriate scaffolding tailored to the attitudes and characteristics of identified free-riders. In the proposed solutions, emphasis was placed not only on improving positive perceptions of collaboration during and after the collaboration process but also on maintaining team morale. Additionally, the study aimed to establish solutions through scaffolding based on factors related to early detection of potential causes and prevention of free-riding. It is hoped that the results of this study will serve as a helpful resource for instructors leading team collaborative learning in dealing with free-riders.
