Cultural influences and perceptions of body image in the context of gender may mediate engagement in exercise, leisure activities and sports among women. Behaviors and attitudes regarding leisure based physical activities are associated with concepts of self, physiological health and mental well-being, suggesting that sociocultural factors influencing body image are significantly related to health-related outcomes of 'women on a global scale. This integrative review examined studies that explored cultural influences on body image and recreational activities of women. A comprehensive search of literature of academic databases was conducted revealing the following themes: 1) intrapersonal constraints, 2) interpersonal constraints, 3) structural constraints and 4) negotiation methods related to body image among populations of culturally diverse 'women.
