Appearance of ChatGPT and English Study

본 연구의 목적은 학습자에게 자기주도적 학습 방향성을 제시하기 위해 ChatGPT에 관한정의와 그 특징을 살펴보고, ChatGPT를 학습에 적용할 때 학습목적에 부합할 수있는 가능성을 타진하는 것이다. ChatGPT의 학습 활용이 그 목적성에 부합한다면 인공지능을 활용하여영어학습에 활용할 수 있는 방향과 방법을 연구하였다. 본 연구에서 첫 번째, ChatGPT의 정의와 기술적 특성을 알아보고, 두 번째, 인공지능의활용성을 언급하였으며, 세 번째, ChatGPT의 영어학습 적용에 대하여 서술하였다. 첫째, ChatGPT란 방대한 데이터를 기반으로 학습하고 주어진 질문에 응답하는 인공지능시스템이라 할 수 있다. 둘째, 2022년 11월 30일 OpenAI에 의해 출시된 ChatGPT는 답변에서 거짓과 오류를 내놓는 약점을 가지고 있어, 사용자들로부터 ChatGPT의 능력에 대해서도 완전히 신뢰할 수 없다는 평을 듣게 되었다. 그렇지만 부정할 수 없는 사실은 인공지능의 기술은 발전할 것이며,미래는 인류의 대부분이 사용하게 될 것이다. 셋째, ChatGPT는 답변과 글쓰기에 대해 표절이나 모방에서 많은 문제가 있으며, 대부분의 교육 기관에서는 ChatGPT의 사용을 금하고 있다. 이러한 논란에도 불구하고, ChatGPT를활용하여 학습 보조 역할로 사용한다면 훌륭한 학습성과를 낼 수 있다는 주장도 있다. 특히영어를 주 언어로 사용할 때 가장 효과적인 답변을 하는 ChatGPT는 영어학습에 도움을 줄수 있으며, 학습자의 능력에 따라 이를 학습 보조 도구로 사용할 수 있다. ChatGPT를 학습 보조 도구로 사용할 때 학습자의 자기주도적 학습을 이끌어 낼 수 있으며, 학습환경에 흥미를 느낄 수 있을 것이라 기대하지만, ChatGPT의 오류에 대하여 주의를기울여 사용하는 것이 필요하다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the definition and characteristics of ChatGPT in order to present the direction of self-directed learning to learners, and to explore the possibility of meeting the learning purpose when applying ChatGPT to learning. If the learning utilization of ChatGPT meets its purpose, the direction and method that can be used for English learning using artificial intelligence were studied. In this study, first, the definition and technical characteristics of ChatGPT were examined, second, the utilization of artificial intelligence was mentioned, and third, the application of ChatGPT to English learning was described. First, ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence system that learns based on vast amounts of data and responds to given questions. Second, ChatGPT, released by OpenAI on November 30, 2022, has the weakness of giving false and errors in answers, and users have complained that ChatGPT's ability is not completely reliable. However, the undeniable fact is that artificial intelligence technology will develop, and the future will be used by most of humanity. Third, ChatGPT has many problems in plagiarism or imitation for answers and writing, and most educational institutions prohibit the use of ChatGPT. Despite these controversies, some argue that using ChatGPT as a learning assistant role can produce excellent learning outcomes. In particular, ChatGPT, which gives the most effective answer when using English as the main language, can help learning English, and can be used as a learning aid depending on the learner's ability. When using ChatGPT as a learning aid, it is expected that learners can lead self-directed learning and be interested in the learning environment, but it is necessary to pay attention to errors in ChatGPT when using it.
