해방공간의 항일투쟁 기념과 박동실의 『열사가』

‘Yeolssa-ga’ as a Memorial Event for the anti-Japanese Movement

『열사가』의 창작 시기를 파악하기 위해 그 내용에 부합되는 원천 자료들을 검토한 결과 이 자료들이 해방 이후에 등장한 것임이 확인되었다. <이준·안중근·윤봉길 열사가>에 특징적인 내용들은 모두 해방 이후에 이 인물들을 다룬 자료들에서 확인된다. 특히 유관순은 해방 이후에 비로소 전국적으로 알려지기 시작했으며, <유관순열사가>는 전영택의 『순국처녀 유관순전』(1948)과 관련이 있음이 확인되었다. 따라서 『열사가』는 해방 이후에 창작되었다. 박동실이 『열사가』의 작사자인지에 대해 의문이 있어왔으나 해방 이후에 이준, 안중근, 유관순, 윤봉길의 항일 투쟁을 다룬 전기(傳記), 영화, 연극, 만화 등이 많이 나와서 이들을 바탕으로 충분히 작사할 수 있었다고 볼 수 있다. 박동실이 열사들의 전기적 사실들을 직접 수집하여 창작한 것이 아니라 선행하는 전기나 예술 작품을 활용하여 작사한 것이다. 박동실이 『열사가』를 창작한 목적은 해방 공간에서 전사회적으로 전개된 항일투쟁 기념사업에 동참하기 위한 것이었다. 박동실이 노래한 이준, 안중근, 윤봉길, 그리고 유관순이 해방 공간에서 항일 투쟁의 상징으로 정립되었던 인물들이었던 점에서 이를 확인할 수 있다. 박동실의 『열사가』는 판소리가 당대 사회 전반에서 전개된 구체적 사회 운동과 발맞추어 창작된 최초의 작품이라는 점에서 역사적 의의가 있으며, 당시 문화계 전반의 활발한 항일투쟁 기념사업에 동참하여 판소리계에서 만들어낸 유일한 작품이라는 점에서도 큰 의의가 있다.

‘Yeolssa-ga’, a song for martyrs who fought against Japanese invasion upon Korea in early 20th century, is a representative work of modern Pansori. It consists of ‘Yu Kwan-sun Yeolssa-ga’, song for martyr Kwan-sun Yu, and ‘Yi Zun · Ahn Jung-geun · Yun Bong-gil Yeolssa-ga’, song for martyrs Zun Yi, Jung-geun Ahn, and Bong-gil Yun. Dong-sil Park(1897~1968) has been known as the music composer of ‘Yeolssa-ga’, and there are witness and circumstantial evidence that he also wrote the words of ‘Yeolssa-ga’. But it is not certain that when ‘Yeolssa-ga’ was created. To find out the time of creation, source materials related with ‘Yeolssa-ga’ were investigated. On the literary level, ‘Yeolssa-ga’ has close relations with ‘Ahn Jung-geun Sagi’(1946), a play on Ahn Jung-geun, ‘Yi Zun Seonsaeng Jeon’(1947), a biography of Zun Yi, ‘Baekbeom Iljee’(1947), an autobiography of Koo Kim, and ‘Yu Kwan-sun Jeon’(1948), a biography of Kwan-sun Yu. All these source materials were published after the 1945 Liberation. Taking into consideration that Dong-sil Park went to North Korea during the Korean War, ‘Yeolssa-ga’ was written and composed between the 1945 Liberation and the Korean War. After the 1945 Liberation, there were various memorial events for the anti-Japanese movement against the aggression of Japanese Empire. And the key figures of memorial events were Zun Yi, Jung-geun Ahn, Bong-gil Yun, and Kwan-sun Yu. So Dong-sil Park took part in these memorial events by ‘Yeolssa-ga’.
