The Arts World of Pansori Master Ju Deokgi’s Family

이상에서 살펴본 바를 간략하게 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 주덕기 명창은 순조~철종 시대에 활동한 소리꾼으로 적벽가와 춘향가, 심청가 등에 뛰어났다. 춘향가의 사랑가・이별가・옥중가, 적벽가의 화용도에 뛰어났으며, 춘향가의 옥중몽유가가 그의 더늠이다. 심청가는 아들 주상환에게 전했으며, 적벽가는 박만순에게 전했다. 둘째, 주상환 명창은 주덕기의 아들로 헌종~고종 시대에 활동한 서편제 소리꾼이다. 심청가 명창으로 더늠은 심 봉사가 심청을 기르는 대목이다. 셋째, 주광득 명창은 송만갑과 김정문, 박동실에게 소리를 배운 것으로 짐작된다. 그는 다재다능한 예인으로 북과 설장구, 판소리, 창극 등에 두루 뛰어났다. 화랑창극단을 비롯하여 조선고전음악연구회, 국극협단, 국악사 등에서 활동하며 <춘향전>, <흥보전>, <탄야곡>, <도화선>, <백호성> 등에 출연하여 방자, 흥보 큰아들, 읍차 등 조연으로 인기를 얻었다. 박복남과 정춘실, 성준숙, 안숙선 등을 가르쳐 판소리 발전에 일조하였다. 넷째, 주운숙 명창은 주광득의 딸로 이명희, 이일주, 신영희에게 흥보가와 심청가, 수궁가, 춘향가를 배웠다. 1996년 제22회 전주대사습놀이대회에서 장원을 하였으며, 2017년 대구광역시 무형문화재 제8호 판소리 심청가 예능보유자가 되었다. 판소리 및 창극 공연, 제자 교육을 통해 판소리 발전에 이바지하고 있다.

The singers of pansori master Ju Deokgi’s family were born with a singing gift, and they have greatly contributed to the promotion of pansori culture by developing their gift. This paper aims to explore the arts world of the singers of pansori master Ju Deokgi’s family at Damyang, Jeollanamdo, with a focus on the importance of the innate gift in traditional arts. The results are as follows: First, pansori master Ju Deokgi, who played an active part in the reign of Kings Sunjo and Cheoljong during the Joseon dynasty, was outstanding in Jeokbyoeokga, Chunhyangga, and Shimcheongga. He excelled in Sarangga, Ibyeolga, and Okjungga of Chunhyangga, and Hwayongdo of Jeokbyeokga. His “deoneum” was Okjungmongyuga of Chunhyangga. Shimcheongga was passed on to his son, Ju Sanghwan, and Jeokbyeokga was passed on to Park Mansun. Second, pansori master Ju Sanghwan was a son of Ju Deokgi. He was a singer of “seopyeonje” who was active during the reign of Kings Heonjong and Gojong. He was a master singer of Shimcheongga, and his specialty was the scene of the blind father, Shim, bringing up his only daughter, Shimcheong. Third, pansori master Ju Gwangdeuk was guessed to have learned pansori from Song Mangap, Kim Jeongmun, and Park Dongsil. He was multi-talented and remarkable in drums, Seoljanggo, pansori, and Korean classical operas. He was active in Joseongojeoneumakyeonguhoe, Gukgeukhyeopdan, and Gukaksa, as well as Hwarang Changgeukdan. He performed in <Chunhyangjeon>, <Heungbojeon>, <Tanyagok>, <Dohwaseon>, <Baekhoseong>, etc. He was very popular as a supporting actor, for example, as Bangja, the oldest son of Heungbo, and “eupcha.” He taught Park Boknam, Jeong Chunsil, Seong Junsuk, and An Sukseon, helping to develop pansori. Fourth, pansori master Ju Unsuk is a daughter of Ju Gwangdeuk, who learned Heungboga, Shimcheongga, Sugungga, and Chunhyangga from Lee Myeonghui, Lee Ilju, and Sin Yeonghui. She won the Grand Prix at the 22nd Jeonjudaesaseupnoli Contest in 1996, and she became the 8th holder of Daegu City Intangible Cultural Porperty for Pansori Shimcheongga in 2017. She is contributing to the development of pansori by performing pansori and Korean classical operas, and also teaching her students.
