거시문체적 시각에서 볼 때 <춘향가>의 의미있는 문체적 특징은 ‘환유적’이라고 할 수 있다. 여기서 ‘문체’라는 개념은 수사법적 차원에 국한되지 않고 작가적 의도와 서술적 효과, 이데올로기적 정향 등과 연결되는 광의의 의미를 담고 있으며, ‘환유’는 비유법으로서가 아니라 표현을 조직하는 방식 내지는 세계를 바라보는 시각으로서의 의미를 내포하는 것으로 사용된다. 그리하여 ‘문체’와 ‘환유’ 개념을 텍스트 내적 의미에서부터 넓은 영역의 현실맥락으로 끌고 나와 <춘향가>의 담화방식을 당대의 사회문화와 당대인의 의식구조와의 관련 속에서 조망한다. <춘향가>에서 환유적 문체가 실현되는 양상은 다음과 같다. (1)음성적 인접성에 의해 확장되는 수수께끼 문답 형식을 채용한 말놀이, (2)원전을 모방하고 반복하되 어떤 비판적 거리를 두고 의미의 옆으로 미끄러짐으로써 상황을 희극적으로 변개시키는 패러디, (3)사물들간의 공간적인 인접 관계에 의해 일련의 사물들의 이름이 연상되어 나열되는 현상, (4)본질적인 맥락에서 벗어나 주변적인 맥락으로 이동하는 메타 층위의 언술들, (5)정서적 고조 국면에서의 의도적 일탈 현상 등이다. 이러한 환유적 문체현상은 일종의 사유적인 반란으로서 해체주의적 맥락에서 기존의 담화방식에 대해 시도되는 일종의 뒤틀기라고 할 수 있을 것이다. 또 당시에 대두된 공시적인 사고패턴이 그 배경을 이루고 있다고 생각되는데, 그것은 그동안의 통시적인 사고패턴, 즉 역사결정론적이고 숙명론적인 사고에 대한 한계 의식의 표출이라고 볼 수 있을 것이다. <춘향가>는 이러한 사유적인 반란을 이데올로기의 경직된 표출로 나타내지 않고 오히려 골계정신으로 용해하여 웃음을 통해 여유있게 표현하고 있다.
Among several stylistic characters of <Chun Hyang Ga>, the most meaningful one is metonymic character. It would be analyzed in the perspective of macrostylistics which methodology is on the mixture with discourse analysis, textlinguistics and Bakhtin's discourse/ideology theory. Therefore the concept of 'style' and 'metonymy' here is used in the broader range. The performed aspects of metonymic style in <Chun Hyang Ga> are as follows; (1) punning with riddle style that is expanded by phonetic contiguity, (2) comic parody remade in the critical distance to the original text, which is expanded slipping aside meaning, (3) the enumeration of items associated by spatial contiguous relation, (4) meta-discourse that is deviated to the surrounding context from the intrinsic context, (5) discursive deviation in the phase of emotional peak. This metonymic style in <Chun Hyang Ga> has spiritual background in that times. One is the deconstructive perspective or speculative resistance against established discoursive system. The other is synchronic thinking pattern raised by the limit of anachronic thinking pattern or the resistance against historic determinism and fatalism. The mediate agent between the former metonymic style and the latter spiritual background is assumed as the humorous spirit of the singer of Pansori.
