정응민은 보성소리의 확립자로서 판소리 전승의 중요한 역할을 담당한 인물이다. 그의 소리는 박유전의 후기 소리인 강산제를 이어받은 정재근을 통해 이룩된 것이다. 여기에 김세종 바디의 <춘향가>를 이어받음으로써 동편적인 특성을 접목하고 다양한 기교를 개발하여 그만의 독자적인 바디를 이룩했다. 특히 그는 보성 지역에서 많은 제자들을 길러냈고, 그 제자들이 많은 활약을 함으로써 ‘보성소리’라는 새로운 유파를 만들었다. 그의 소리 정체성은 세련된 예술적 기교, 통성 위주의 발성, 소리에 대한 겸허한 자세, 창조적이고 변화하는 소리, 고제의 완창 판소리 전승, 올곧은 성품의 반영 등으로 나타난다. 특히 그가 제자 교육에 남다른 열정을 가지고 창조적인 수업을 하였다는 사실은 판소리 교육의 모범이 되고 있다. 현재 그의 소리는 성우향, 조상현, 성창순, 정회석이 대표적으로 이어가고 있다. 이들 또한 스승의 소리를 자신의 장점과 능력에 맞게 변화시켜 나가면서 보성소리의 맥을 이어가고 있다.

His Song ideology was continued by his students through the elegant, solemn sound and grace, refined the words of song. Jung, Ung-min teached different words of song through student's ages and time. His students made also their own song and words. Representative students Jo, Sang-hyun, Sung, Woo-hyang, Sung, Chang-soon, Jung, Kwon-jin continued the teacher's song and created individual. And that means they shown Jung, ung-min's bodyis specialized. It shows us life power that Pansori's changing and rebirth, how they established ‘Body’ by Jung, Ung-Min from Park, Yoo-Jun and Kim, Se-Jong. You can see that they learned from teacher, at same time they made their own style in music and words of song, and they made their own new ‘Body’. It is very meaningful that we learned about Jung, Ung-Min Body's power and substance of singers from now.
