A Study on Pansori Singer Kim I-suChoe, Tong HyonThe purpose of this study is to make clear the life of pansori singer Kim I-su and his artistic features.Kim I-su was born in Beopseongpo in 1929. But shortly after his birth he was moved to Simweon-myeon, Gochang-gun and grew in this district. Kim I-su learned Heungboga, Simcheongga, Chunhyangga, Jeokbyeokga with Kim To-san. Kim To-san was known as a successor of I Nal-chi.From 1955, Kim I-su had taught pansori at the traditional music institution in Jeongeup, Gimje and Yeosu city. In 1990 some parts of Kim I-su's Simcheongga and Heungboga was recorded by Sinnara Music Company. One LP of Heungboga was issued in this year. In Kim I-su's Heungboga literature, there are many parts identical with those of Sin Jae-hyo version Heungboga. But it was identified that Kim I-su's Heungboga is not a version of seopyeonje. He died in 1993.Kim I-su's Simcheongga literature is identical with that of Kim Yeong-su's except the part of Simcheong's throwning into the Indang Water. But the application of jangdan in Kim I-su's pansori is different from that of Kim Yeon-su's. Even though Kim I-su borrowed Kim Yeon-su's Simcheongga literature, he made his own music. The characteristics of Kim I-su's pansori are frequent use of eotbuchim, improvisation, various changes of voice and strongpoint on the sad scenes expression. They are the evidence of Kim I-su's creativity. As a pansori singer Kim I-su played in the country. But he made his living by pansori Probably he was the only singer that lived on pansori in those era when pansori singer could not earn living only by pansori singing.
