이 연구는 판소리, 소설, 창극, 영화 등 시대에 따라 매체를 달리 하며동시대적으로 또는 통시적으로 향유되어 온 <심청전>이 20세기를 맞이하여 보인 변모를 탐구하고자 하였다. 이 시기에 <심청전>이 보이는 변모는근대라는 시대사적 의미와 함께 향유 방식의 변화라는 측면에서 눈여겨볼만하다. 20세기에 들어 <심청전>은 개화기라는 시대적 특성과 어우러져창극화라는 매체 변용이 일어난다. 그리고 새로운 출판 문화의 형성과 함께 활자본 <심청전>의 간행이 활발하게 이루어지고 이에 따라 대중적 향유와 이를 위한 개작본이 만들어지게 된다. 이 연구에서는 이러한 변화 과정중에 있는 <심청전>의 여러 판본 중에서도 박문서관에서 간행된 활자본중 <신정 심청전(몽금도전)>(이하 <몽금도전>)에 주목해 보았다. <몽금도전>은 외형적으로 여타의 <심청전> 판본과 다른 명칭을 사용하고 있으며, ‘연극소설’이라는 것을 부기하고 있고, 개작 시기가 1916년으로밝혀져 있다는 점 등에서 특징적이다. 내용적으로는 기존의 <심청전> 이본이 갖고 있던 기본 서사를 파격적으로 변형하고 있다는 점에서 여느 이본과 궤를 달리한다. 기존 연구에서 <몽금도전>에 대한 개괄적인 논의는 이루어졌다고 할 수있다. 그러나 구체적인 화소 변화의 전체 양상이나 이러한 개작이 지니는의미에 대한 본격적인 논의는 미진한 상황이다. 이에 이 연구에서는 <몽금도전>이 지닌 서사 요소를 기존의 판본을 중심으로 비교하여 보고, <몽금도전>에 나타나는 <심청전> 개작의 양상을 전체적으로 조망하여 보고자하였다. 그리고 <몽금도전> 개작이 지닌 의미를 근대라는 시기에 초점을맞추어 살펴보았다. <몽금도전>의 개작 시기가 밝혀져 있고, 특정인에 의해 편집 및 발행된것을 고려하면, 이러한 접근은 구체적인 시기에서의 개작 양상을 분석해볼 수 있다는 차별성을 지닌다. 또한 개작 시기가 근대 초입이면서 일제강점기라는 시대적 특수성이 있다는 점에서 <몽금도전>의 개별적 분석은특정 시기의 특정인에 의한 개작이 지닌 의미를 탐색해 볼 수 있는 의의가있으리라 기대한다.
This study aims to research how Shimchung-cheon changes in the early 20th century as enjoyed diverse mode-pansori, novel, Korean traditional [classical] opera, movie, etc., contemporarily and diachronically. It is worthy of notice that the different aspect of this period has relation with the modern times at the same time the sense of changed way of enjoying Shimchung-cheon. Entering 20th century, Shimchung-cheon underwent transfiguration of media. And Shimchung-cheon had been made to another version, adapted Shimchung-cheon. In this study, Monkeumdo-cheon, one of the adapted Shimchung-cheon was paid attention. It is the characteristics of Monkeumdo-cheon that the name of version is different from another Shimchung-cheon, ‘play-novel’ is built into the name,the adaption time is revealed as 1916 and so on. Especially from the content perspectives, Monkeumdo-cheon transforms Shimchung-cheon substantially. It is worth discussing Monkeumdo-cheon because the research of that was not sufficient as Shimchung-cheon’s adapted version. So in this research, it is tried that what is the difference Monkeumdo-cheon with Shimchung-cheon and the meaning of that. It is the significance of this study that is Monkeumdo-cheon is very different from any other Shimchung-cheon, so it is meaningful to research Shimchung-cheon focusing to the aspect of adaption.
