본고는 판소리 더늠 중 난해한 청도기 대목 사설의 유래와 정확한 어의 해석을 위해 집필되었다. 춘향가의 신연맞이와 적벽가의 군사 분발 장면에 등장하는 ‘청도기’ 더늠은 관원들의 행차에 동원되는 각종 旗幟와 器具를 나열하는 사설인데, 빠른 자진머리 장단으로 순식간에 엮어가므로 사설을 정확하게 이해하기는 매우 어렵다. 조선조 班次圖는 행차 관원의 모습을 정밀하게 그린 기록화이다. 『安陵新迎圖』(1786)는 樂山軒이 김홍도에게 의뢰하여 부친의 안릉 부임시 행차 광경을 그린 班次圖로 개인적인 기념품이다. 이 그림은 당시 官員들의 행차 광경과 동원된 旗幟와 器具가 자세히 그려진 기록화이며, 판소리의 청도기 사설과 정확하게 일치한다. 또한 조선조 군사교범으로 널리 읽히던 『兵學指南』에는 군사의 행군에 관한 절차와 軍旗의 모습, 용도까지 정확하게 서술하고 있어서 청도기 사설을 정확하게 이해할 수 있다. 이러한 자료를 통해 재구성해 보면 현재 전승된 판소리 청도기 사설에는 대부분 심한 오류가 나타난다. 이러한 오류는 『兵學指南』의 ‘ 將淸道圖’나 『安陵新迎圖』를 통해 정확하게 고증하고 바로잡을 수 있다. 신연맞이는 조선의 實景을 바탕으로 짜인 더늠이므로 판소리의 극사실주의적 표현의 대표적인 더늠이다. 이야기로써 현장을 보여주는 청도기 대목이야말로 섬세하고 정확한 묘사, 생동감 넘치는 표현으로 실감나는 대목이다. 관원의 행차와 관청의 연회에 동원되던 광대와 才人들에게는 일상적으로 경험하던 것이었다. 조선시대에 관원들의 화려한 행차는 누구에게나 풍성한 구경거리였고, ‘청도기’ 더늠은 이러한 인상 깊은 구경거리를 추체험 하게 함으로써 판소리 이야기의 리얼리티를 높이는 구실을 하였다.
This study aimed to correct the erroneous lyrics of modern-day Pansori (narrative song) based on ancient paintings. The Cheongdogi (a military unit-leading flag) episode of Pansori Chunhyangga depicts the procession of government officials during the Joseon period. This portion also appears in the military march scene of Jeokbyeokga. It depicts various military flags and musical band in Joseon. Pansori singers in Joseon sang songs at events and feasts of welcoming government officials, so they were able to sing this scene realistically. However, singers in later periods could not understand the past military system, and thus could not sing properly on many occasions. This scene appears in the genre painting by famous Joseon painter Kim Hong-do, entitled Anneung sinyeongdo (painting of an official appointed to Anneung). Lyrics of Pansori exactly match the flags and military band as depicted in Kim Hong-do's painting. This enabled the correction of erroneous lyrics. Also, the Joseon military manual Byeonghakjinam describes the same march order, enabling the correction of erroneous lyrics.
