동리(桐里) 신재효(申在孝)의 작품집의 편찬과 간행이 이병기와 강한영에 의해 이루어졌으나 신재효연구를 더욱 활성화하고, 새로운 단계로 진전시키기 위해서는 선본(善本) 중심의 작품집 편찬을 넘어서 ‘동리(桐里) 신재효(申在孝) 총서(叢書)’(이하 ‘동리 총서’)가 편찬되어야 한다. 그리고 이 총서는 다음과 같은 원칙으로 편찬될 필요가 있다. 1) 桐里의 모든 작품을 망라한다. 2) 桐里 작품의 여러 전승본을 모두 수록한다. 3) 桐里의 작품들은 그대로 수록하고 수정하지 않는다. 4) 桐里의 전기(傳記)를 재구성하는데 도움이 되는 관련 자료는 모두 수록한다. 5) 총서 편찬에서 작품 수록의 순서는 桐里문학의 문화적 의의에 의한다. 이러한 원칙하에 실제 ‘동리 총서’는 다음과 같이 편찬될 수 있다. (1) 영인본(또는 사진본) ‘동리 총서’ (2) 교주본 ‘동리 총서’ (3) 현대어본 ‘동리 총서’ (4) ‘동리 총서’ 선집(현대어본) (5) 신재효 연구 총서 ‘동리 총서’ 편찬에는 기왕에 알려진 자료만을 망라할 것이 아니라 그 존재가 언급되었으나 실물이 확인되지 않은 자료들을 비롯한 새로운 자료들을 조사 발굴하는 작업이 병행되어야 한다.
We have two compilations of Jae-hyo Shin’s works by Byoung-ki Lee and Han-young Kang, which have played significant roles in the research of Jae-hyo Shin and Pansori. But now is the time to compile complete works of Jae-hyo Shin newly in order to advance the level of research on him. Because the former two compilations have lacked diverse versions of his pansori works, other literary works and biographical documents, so that studies in his works and life have been stagnated. Jae-hyo Shin’s complete works could be edited newly on the principles as below : 1) All of the literary works of Jae-hyo Shin should be included in compilation. 2) All of the versions of Shin’s pansori works should be included in compilation. 3) All of the documents related with Shin’s life should be included in compilation. 4) All of the literary works and documents should be compiled with photoprint of the original copies. On the basis of the photoprint compilation, the complete works of Jae-hyo Shin could be appeared in the annotated edition and the modern Korean edition. Needless to say new literary works, documentaries, and several versions of his pansori works which are mentioned but not discovered so far should be collected in advance.
