종파 갈등과 타자화의 서사적, 언어적 표현 연구

A Study of Linguistic and Narrative Techniques of Mama Hissa’s Mice: Focusing on the Description of Sectarian Conflict

본 연구의 주요 목적은 쿠웨이트 작가 수우드 앗사누시의『움미 히싸네 쥐들』을 중심으로 작가가 이슬람 종파 갈등과 분열을 표현한 방식을 분석하고 전달하고자 하는 메시지와 주제의식을 파악하는 것이다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 우선 소설에 나타난 주요 모티브와 사건을 배열해보며 어떻게 인물들 간의 종파 갈등이 점차 심화되고 발전되는지 그 전반적인 과정과 역사적 배경을 알아보고, 작가가 어떠한 방식으로 이러한 갈등 구조를 구체화시켰는지 소설에 사용된 다양한 서사 기법과 그 의미를 알아본다. 이후 소설 속 인물들이 상대 종파를 타자로 규정하고 배척 및 공격하기 위해 사용된 다양한 언어적 담론과 상징들을 역사적 기억이라는 근거에 따라 분석한다.

The main objective of this study is to analyze the novel Mama Hissa’s Mice of the Kuwait writer Suʿūd al-Sanʿūsī and to identify the messages and themes that the author is trying to convey, focusing on how the writer presents sectarian conflicts. For this purpose, this study first arranges the main motifs and events in the novel to understand the overall narrative and process of intensification and development of conflict between characters. The various narrative techniques, linguistic discourses and symbols used by the author to describe the conflict are dealt with in this study. The study finds that linguistic discourses and symbols used by the characters in the novel to define, otherize, and attack the other sect are based on conflicting historical memories between sects.
