Lu Xun’s Research of Chinese Ancient Novels(6) : Comparative Study of Shionoya On’s The Discourse of Introduction of Chinese Literature and Lu Xun’s The Brief History of Chinese Novel

일본 학자 시오노야 온의 《중국문학개론강화》는 희곡과 소설이 중시 받지 못했던 시기에 일종의 개척자적인 역할을 했던 중요 저작이다. 루쉰은 시오노야 온의 저작에서 많은 영감을 받았고, 자료적인 측면에서 실질적인 도움도 받았다. 그로 인해 한때는 루쉰이 시오노야 온의 저작을 ‘베껴 썼다’는 논란도 있었으나, 그것은 이와 무관한 ‘사회적 사건’을 둘러싸고 벌어졌던 일종의 해프닝으로 귀결되었다. 하지만 그 정도로 두 사람의 저작은 유사성을 갖고 있는 게 사실이다. 하지만 그러한 유사성에도 불구하고 양자의 차이를 분명하게 보여주는 것은 ‘입론立論’에 있다. 곧 시오노야 온의 《중국문학개론강화》는 강연 원고를 정리해 펴낸 것으로, 대중들이 쉽게 중국문학 전반을 이해할 수 있게 중국문학을 개괄적으로 서술한 것이다. 중국 소설에 관한 내용은 이 책의 일부에 지나지 않으며, 전문적인 소설사 집필을 염두에 두고 서술되지 않았다. 이에 반해 루쉰은 젊은 시절부터 소설 자료들을 수집하는 등 중국소설사를 집필하기 위해 오랜 시간 공을 들였다. 《중국소설사략》은 그러한 노력의 결과물이라 할 수 있다. 하지만 시대적인 한계로 루쉰은 많은 자료들을 섭렵할 수 없었기에 그때마다 주위의 도움을 받아야 했다. 그 가운데 시오노야 온의 저작이 크게 영향을 주었던 것은 움직일 수 없는 사실이다. 이 논문에서는 두 사람의 저작을 꼼꼼하게 분석함으로써 양자의 동이점과 그 의의를 밝히고자 한다.

Shionoya On’s The Discourse of Introduction of Chinese Literature played a pioneer role in the times drama and novel were not treated as well as it should be. Lu Xun got a lot of inspiration from that and a practical help of materials. This caused the controversy that Lu Xun plagiarized Shionoya On’s. Even though it ended up the happening over ‘social event’ regardless of it, it was true that they had lot of similarities between two books. Despite of such similarities, the difference between them consists in their arguments. Shionoya On’s The Discourse of Introduction of Chinese Literature was to organize and publish his lecture copies and give a general description of a Chinese Literature for the public to easily understand it. The contents of Chinese Novels is just a part of this book, it was not written for the specific history of novels. Contrary to this, Lu Xun collected the materials of Chinese novels from his youth and was at great pains to write the history of Chinese novels for a long time. His The Brief History of Chinese Novel can be called its result of such efforts. But he could not get through many references due to the limitations of the times and needed help from his associates. Among them, Shionoya on’s The Discourse of Introduction of Chinese Literature was one of the great help to him. In this thesis, the significance and the differences and similarities between them will be turned out by close research.
