비교과 영어 프로그램을 통한 대학생 영어학습자 학습지도 및 상담 사례 분석

An analysis of English teaching and academic counseling for college English learners through an extracurricular English program

The purpose of this study is to analyze the cases of teaching English and academic counseling for college English learners through the English Clinic, an extracurricular English program. For the research, the content of the questions asked by 73 students who participated in the English Clinic was analyzed, and in-depth interviews were conducted with 3 students recruited by purposeful sampling. According to the research results, the most frequently asked questions by students were related to TOEIC, followed by questions about grammar and English learning methods. The in-depth interviews revealed that participants had a strong motivation to learn English as they recognized it is essential for achieving their goals. Furthermore, although the motives for participating in the English Clinic and the goals of learning English varied among the participants of the in-depth interviews, they strongly recognized the necessity of learning English to have desired employment opportunities, considering themselves as students of a local university. This study suggests the need for continuous research on various English programs to assist college students in improving their English communication skills and strengthening their employability competencies.
