연진한 장성에 대한 중국학계의 최근 연구 동향

A Review on the Recent Research Trends of the Great Wall of Yan, Qin and Han in Chinese Academia

중국에서 최근 발간된 『요령성 연진한 장성 자원 조사 보고』는 요령성 연진한 장성의 전체적인 분포를 확정하였다. 장성은 동으로 압록강 서안까지 이르러 한반도 서북부의 ‘대령강장성(大寧江長城)’과 연결된다고 한다. 사실 요동지역의 연진한 장성으로 거론되는 유적은 우리가 생각하는 장성의 성벽이 아니라, 봉수 또는 매납유구, 유물산포지 등이 대부분이다. 이는 최근 장성의 개념이 장성을 하나의 방어체계로 설정하고 이와 관련된 부속 시설 및 유적까지 포괄하는 것으로 확장되었기 때문이다. 그러나 요동지역 연진한 장성의 대부분을 차지하는 봉수 유적이 과연 방어시설로서의 기능을 했는가에 대한 답은 보고서 내에서 찾기 어려웠다. 또한 화폐 매납유구와 유물산포지 역시도 봉수와 마찬가지로 장성과 관련된 것으로 파악하고 있지만, 교역의 산물인 화폐는 재지민도 소유할 수 있으며, 유물산포지는 장성의 존재를 직접적으로 밝혀줄 수 없다. 만약 화폐 매납유구나 유물 산포지를 장성과 연결시킨다면 요동지역에는 여러 개의 장성선(長城線)을 상정할 수 있을 것이다. 대령강장성과의 관계 역시도 시간적으로나 입지적으로나 서로 관련성을 상정하기는 어려운 실정이다. 그리고 보고서에서 강조하는 연진한 장성의 연용 문제 역시 구체적인 증거를 찾기 어렵다. 장성의 연용 문제는 요령성에 분포하는 수많은 한대(漢代) 유적의 시기를 연진시기로 올리는 데 논리적 근거가 되기 때문에 더욱 중요하다. 그러나 대부분의 사례가 다소 고고학적이지 않은 추론에 의존하고 있어 아직은 신뢰하기 어려운 상황이다. 따라서 요동지역 연진한 장성의 존재를 주장하기 위해서는 아직 더 많은 고고학 자료를 통한 논리적 보강이 필요할 것으로 생각된다.

A report on the study of the resources of the Great Wall of Yan, Qin and Han in Liaoning(2017) confirmed the overall distribution of the Great Wall of Yan, Qin and Han. Great Wall of Yan, Qin and Han reaches the west bank of the Yalu River in the east and is connected to the Daeryunggang jangseong Fortress in the northwest of the Korean Peninsula. In fact, most of the relics mentioned as the resources of the Great Wall in the Liaodong area are not the long walls of the generals we think of, but beacons, cellars, and relics scattering sites. This is because the concept of the Great Wall has recently expanded to include related auxiliary facilities by regarding the Great Wall as a defense system. However, it was difficult to find an answer in the report to whether the beacon towers, which account for most of the resources of the Great Wall in the Liaodong area, served as defense facilities. In addition, currency cellar sites and relic scattering sites are also considered to be related to the Great Wall, like beacon towers, but currency, a product of trade, can be owned by local people, and relic scattering sites cannot directly reveal the existence of the Great Wall. If the currency cellar sites or relic scattering sites are connected to the Great Wall, several Great Wall lines can be assumed in the Liaodong area. Iis also difficult to assume a relationship with the Great Wall in terms of time and location. In addition, it is difficult to find concrete evidence of the continuous use of the resources of the Great Wall emphasized in the report. The issue of using the relics related to the Great Wall is all the more important because it serves as an logical basis for advancing the date of numerous Han Dynasty ruins to the Yan, Qin period. However, it is still difficult to trust as most cases rely on somewhat non-archaic reasoning. Therefore, it is thought that logical reinforcement through more archaeological data is still necessary to reveal the reality of the Great Wall in the Liaodong area.
