A Study on Chinese Ming Dynasty Furniture Art from Design Perspective

As the jewel of traditional Chinese furniture, Ming furniture represents the pinnacle of ancient furniture making and at the same time has an important significance and role in the modern design field. Through the use of ergonomics, Ming furniture pursues comfort and con- venience, providing the user with the best possible comfort experience. Its design philosophy fully embodies the laws of formal beauty, focusing on overall harmony and balance and the pursuit of a perfect combination of form and function. Ming furniture exhibits smooth and steady lines, simple and refined shapes, focusing on the contrast and unity of curves and straight lines. In addition, Ming furniture focuses on the choice of materials and makes full use of wood grain and colour, giving the furniture a rich texture and expressiveness. This paper delves into the art of Ming furniture from a design perspective, exploring the key features of Ming furniture, combining examples, data and design principles, with a focus on the ergonomic and formal aesthetic laws applied to its function and shape. This study helps to guide designers in their pursuit of innovation and development based on heritage, injecting a unique charm and value into modern furniture design.
